Meet Judi Gabel
Judi Gabel started her tenure at The Arboretum in 2006. Throughout the years it has transformed into a vibrant independent senior living community serving seniors 55 years or older who are looking to maintain an independent lifestyle. Gabel, other staff and residents of The Arboretum joined the Immanuel family in June 2016 when our organization acquired the community. “One of the things I’ve enjoyed the most is being able to tell people that we are a non-profit. Everything we invest goes towards enhancing the community and the experiences of our residents. I love being able to tell that to new prospects,” said Gabel. One of her main roles as a senior living consultant at The Arboretum is keeping the waiting list engaged. She adds new prospects to the wait list by building relationships with them. “It’s really great to see people on the wait list finally get to move in. The look on their faces and the smiles they bring to our community. I love it,” said Gabel. One of the best things about her job is also being able to spend time with her mom. “It was fun getting her moved in to The Arboretum, so now I see her on a daily basis,” said Gabel.
Prior to her arrival at The Arboretum, Gabel spent 16 years working in new product and new market development for various organizations. “I was tired of always traveling and working in the corporate world so I pursued a career opportunity at The Arboretum,” said Gabel. For her, it was also a nice change of pace. “I got to stay in town and it also allowed me to continue doing marketing,” said Gabel. She also enjoys planning, coordinating and executing large events like the Big Red Breakfast, monthly specialty dinners, speakers and entertainers. Her favorite part of the job is being able to interact with the residents and their families. “It’s just so much fun getting to know the residents on a personal level. You get to hear about their lives. They have such a wealth of knowledge and information and many of them come from different backgrounds and experiences,” said Gabel.
Born in Rockford, Illinois, Judi and her family moved to Nebraska when she was just one year old. “I grew up in Beatrice and later moved to Gordon in the panhandle. I’m very fortunate that my entire family lives in the Omaha and Bellevue area,” said Gabel. She is a diehard Chicago Bears and Chicago Cubs fan. Judi is married to Dave Koebel, Chief Business Officer at Metropolitan Community College in Omaha. She has two stepdaughters, two grandchildren and a few nephews. When she isn’t working, she and her husband enjoy bicycling and golfing. They also travel a lot as well. “We like to go Mexico in the winter and we go to Florida from time to time,” said Gabel. The couple also enjoys taking in the sights and sounds of the Stinson Park concerts at Aksarben Village during the summer months. Judi believes that our mission is more than just a statement. “For me, it’s being able to say that I work for Immanuel, an organization that is going to be there for our residents and our staff, that’s so important. We don’t have much to worry about. The consistency, the transparency and the commitment to our seniors and employees are all wonderful qualities. That’s what I love about Immanuel.”
